The High Mountain Hunting Experience
High Mountain Whitetails offers one-on-one fully guided hunts for monster whitetails. High Mountain Whitetails strives to accommodate all hunters in the pursuit of their dream whitetail. When hunting at High Mountain Whitetails, one can plan on seeing 15 to 25 deer each time out hunting. Hunts in late September and early October are best for the big bachelor groups of bucks. Rut hunts are prominent during late October and early November. Late November and December hunts find the bucks feeding hard after the rut. No matter when the hunt, hunters are not simply going deer hunting; at High Mountain Whitetails hunters are hunting for the buck of a lifetime.
High Mountain Whitetails began in 1999, when Russell Cook, founder and owner, bought nearly 1,000 acres in Ridgedale, Missouri and began raising whitetail deer. Over the next five years, Mr. Cook began to raise some monster bucks; and all the details began to fall in place. In 2004, High Mountain Whitetails made the decision to begin offering hunts. Hunters from across the country harvested several huge whitetail bucks over the next five seasons. With over a dozen 200-inch plus bucks taken from the property, 2009 topped the previous seasons when a giant 252-inch whitetail buck was harvested.
High Mountain Whitetails’ hunts include 3 days and 3 nights lodging and all meals. Hunters typically arrive at High Mountain Whitetails the afternoon before the hunt begins to settle into our bunkroom and discuss plans for the hunt with High Mountain Whitetails’ guides. Hunts take place in heated box blinds overlooking food plots of lush clover. At High Mountain Whitetails, hunters will see several mature bucks and will hunt until the opportunity to harvest the buck of their dreams is given.
High Mountain Whitetails also features a small herd of Rocky Mountain Elk roaming the preserve. Where else can you pursue a monster bull while comfortably sitting in a heated box blind? High Mountain Whitetails’ guides scout several days before the hunt, and locate that monster bull. High Mountain Whitetails offers bull elk hunts ranging from 300 inches to giant bulls over 400 inches, with the biggest bull coming in 2007 at a score of 411 inches.

High Mountain Breeding
High Mountain Whitetails began raising deer in 2000. High Mountain Whitetails began its breeding program by purchasing the big northern genetics from ranches in Pennsylvania and Michigan. High Mountain Whitetails began breeding with two breeder bucks and nine bred does and slowly began the process of raising monster whitetails. Over the next few years, High Mountain Whitetails integrated a few new bloodlines; and year after year, the bucks have grown larger and larger. In 2009 High Mountain Whitetails had over a dozen breeder bucks scoring anywhere from 200-inches to 270-inches, some of which are shown in the pictures to the left. All of these breeder bucks have been raised on the ranch since they were fawns.
High Mountain Whitetails has raised several bucks scoring over 200-inches. One truly cannot realize the size of a 200-inch buck until seen in person. In 2008, High Mountain Whitetails raised its largest whitetail ever. Sonny scored over 304-inches and is the grandson of High Roller, who scored 418-inches in 2006. Sonny was a massive non-typical with unbelievable mass and a number of points.
High Mountain Whitetails has a limited number of does, doe fawns, and breeder bucks available for sale. High Mountain Whitetails guarantees healthy deer and will provide DNA, if necessary. Contact High Mountain Whitetails for a complete update on new bucks and more in depth information about the farm and what is offered. Semen is also available from a few of our breeder bucks.
