I am sure you have heard of the great elk hunting that Ric Martin's Trophy Outfitters provided or you were a past client of Trophy Adventures and experienced this great hunt personally. As you may know the Federal Government bought this magnificent 94,000 acre tract in 1999. There has been a nine man board of Trustees appointed by the President's office to manage this property: similar to a private owned ranch and to generate revenue and provide multiple use to the public without destroying this pristine area. The trust proposed and conducted the first hunt during the fall of 2002.
The hunt which was conducted in 2002 was a one time proposal and will be looked upon as a proto-type for possible future activity. I will explain this program and relay Trophy Outfitters program for it's clientele.
There will be a raffle to allow elk hunting for bow and muzzle loader in September and rifle hunts for bulls in October. There will be a $30.00 non-refundable fee for each raffle ticket with 20 maximum purchases for each hunt category. However, no matter how many you purchase, nor how many you win, you may only use one. Successful recipients will then purchase a license. You will be required to apply for a hunt period when buying your tickets and successful draws are not transferable. This year the trust will allow two applicants for each hunt instead of one. This will allow two people to hunt elk at any given time or hunt if two people apply for the same hunt period.
The Trust will provide no amenities and will allow for no pre-scouting. The ranch will be divided into 10 zones and you will draw for a zone prior to the hunt No ATV's will be allowed on the property. If you do not have a registered approved outfitter, then you will be required to have a Trust chaperone.
If this sounds a little restrictive and complicated, it is, and for good reason: this property is exquisite in terms of its elk habitat and elk hunting potential and the Trust is doing everything in its power to protect that.
